Job Title – Head of Underwriting Standards
Contract – Permanent
Salary – £50,000 – £70,000
Location – Cambridgeshire
Industry – Insurance, Underwriting 

Job Purpose:

– To provide reliable & expert advice to the business in relation to the underwriting standards & philosophies required for delivering Delegated Schemes & strategic initiatives
– To provide insight & guidance to the business on the appropriate content and warranties for policy wordings and supporting documentation
– To educate the business on best practice in relation to maintaining first class underwriting standards
– To converse with insurers & capacity providers on underwriting matters

Key Skills/Competencies & Qualifications:

– Expert understanding of insurance underwriting principles
– High level of prose literacy for policy wordings
– Good knowledge of all general insurance product lines
– Excellent communication skills to clearly converse and correspond with the business channels, Insurers & external brokers
– A collaborative and innovative approach to working
– Act with integrity at all times when working with stakeholders
– CII qualification an advantage

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

– Design and implement an underwriting standards framework across the Delegated Authority scheme portfolio
– Review, develop and roll out changes to underwriting rulesets as necessary
– Represent the Delegated Authority Team in dealings with insurers, capacity providers, brokers internal business divisions in all matters related to underwriting activity
– Review and update policy wordings and warranties as appropriate
– Work with Delegated Authority Operations team to review and update underwriting elements of IT product specifications
– Identify requirements for underwriting training across the group. Design & deliver training as required
– Design & implement a peer to peer review framework (in conjunction with Group Delegated Authority Manager)
– Keep up to date with developments in the market and introduce new concepts and initiatives as applicable
– Ensure wherever possible the department works within agreed service standards
– Ensure that FCA requirements, in terms of Training & Competence and Complaints, are adhered too
