Job title: Schemes Underwriter – PI

Salary: £40,000 – £60,000 DOE

Location: Manchester

Purpose of role

• Lawes Consulting is currently working with a well-regarded insurer who is looking to appoint a Schemes Underwriter to support the continued growth of their Professions Sector portfolio. This role offers the opportunity to work across an established panel of scheme partners, delivering high-quality underwriting and broker service while contributing to wider underwriting strategy and portfolio development.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite and manage schemes business, including referrals and more complex risks
• Deliver excellent service to scheme partner brokers and manage key relationships
• Support the profitable growth of the schemes portfolio alongside the Sector Lead
• Challenge existing approaches and contribute to growth and portfolio strategies
• Stay up to date with emerging risks and market developments within the Professions Sector
• Take ownership and accountability for underwriting decisions within your remit

Experience

• Previous underwriting experience in a similar PI role
• Confident decision-maker in complex or challenging underwriting scenarios
• Strong relationship management, influencing, and negotiation skills
• Dip CII qualified or working towards, ideally
• Comfortable making underwriting recommendations outside of authority (or keen to develop)
• Keen to develop specialist expertise within a professional lines environment
• Open-minded, commercial, and comfortable with innovation and informed risk-taking
