About the Role

An established and high-performing insurer is seeking an experienced Development Underwriter to drive profitable growth across key strategic sectors. This role involves underwriting and trading a broad range of commercial lines, including Professional Indemnity, Management Liability, Cyber, Property, and Casualty, with a primary focus on Professional Indemnity.

You will join a successful underwriting team and play a key role in delivering growth ambitions by developing strong internal and external relationships, building a sustainable pipeline, and shaping underwriting appetite within your specialist area.

This position offers the opportunity to influence underwriting strategy, proposition development, and pricing across strategic sectors. It therefore requires strong technical capability, excellent relationship management skills, and a consistent focus on exceptional service delivery.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Underwriting larger, more complex commercial risks in a consistent and profitable manner
• Leading the development and execution of local underwriting strategy alongside regional leadership
• Influencing UK-level product and underwriting appetite and strategy
• Leading underwriting and trading meetings with key broker partners and larger clients
• Delivering regional new business targets
• Developing and strengthening broker relationships to generate and convert new business opportunities
• Increasing submission and conversion volumes through proactive client prospecting
• Supporting the development of product knowledge and sales capability within the underwriting team
• Applying deep technical knowledge of Professional Indemnity underwriting, including pricing, policy wordings, and claims
• Maintaining strong awareness of market conditions, competitors, and broader insurance market dynamics

• Strong underwriting judgement with demonstrable impact on both top- and bottom-line performance
• Deep technical expertise in Professional Indemnity
• Excellent communication, relationship management, and influencing skills
• A commercial, growth-oriented mindset with a clear appetite for winning business
• Ability to make informed, innovative underwriting decisions
• Strong understanding of legal and regulatory frameworks
• ACII qualified or qualified by relevant experience (in line with FCA requirements)
