    Job title: Property and Casualty Underwriter

    Salary: £50,000

    Location: Greater Manchester – Hybrid working with regular office presence and flexibility for remote work and client visits 


    PURPOSE OF ROLE 

    We’re looking for an experienced and commercially minded Mid-Market Property & Casualty Underwriter to join our client’s growing commercial insurance team. This role focuses on underwriting performance, broker engagement, and improving technical and trading capability across the branch.


    RESPONSIBILITIES 

    • Manage underwriting performance and financial outcomes for assigned accounts and brokers
    • Build and maintain strong broker relationships to drive business growth
    • Make informed, data-led underwriting decisions
    • Deliver profitable new business across key markets
    • Support the development of junior underwriters through coaching
    • Monitor account performance and take corrective actions as needed
    • Contribute to process improvements and operational efficiency

    DAY-TO-DAY 

    • Work with the National Trading Centre to support broker partnerships
    • Use digital tools and mobile tech to support underwriting decisions
    • Attend client meetings and industry events
    • Split time between office, remote working, and broker visits
    • Collaborate closely with internal teams to meet business goals

    EXPERIENCE 

    • Minimum two years’ experience in Property & Casualty commercial underwriting, with strong trading skills and proven risk assessment ability
    • In-depth understanding of insurance market dynamics and broker/insurer relationships
    • Skilled in making sound underwriting decisions across varied and complex risks
    • Experience mentoring or coaching team members to support their development
    • Dip CII qualification, or actively working towards it is advantageous

    • Strong communicator with proven relationship-building ability
    • Commercially aware with sound negotiation and trading skills
    • Analytical mindset with strong risk assessment skills
    • Adaptable and resilient, with a drive to improve processes
    • Comfortable using data and digital tools in day-to-day work
