Job title: Development Underwriter

Salary: £50,000 – £60,000 + Car Allowance

Location: North East (including Leeds)

Overview

We’re seeking a passionate and highly motivated Development Underwriter to join a regional team covering the North East region. As a development underwriter, you’ll play a key role in writing new business, advancing our underwriting strategy, and fostering strong relationships with brokers, partners, and clients.

Responsibilities

• Assess and evaluate new and renewal business within the P&C sector, ensuring alignment with underwriting guidelines and risk appetite.
• Underwrite a range of commercial lines with a keen eye for identifying profitable opportunities.
• Build and maintain excellent working relationships with brokers, external partners, and clients to promote business growth in a competitive market.
• Develop and execute underwriting strategies to achieve regional and corporate objectives.
• Stay current with industry trends, regulations, and market developments to support informed decision-making.

Experience

• Possess proven experience (3+ years) in underwriting across commercial lines.
• Demonstrate strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess, price, and manage risk effectively.
• Have excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to build lasting relationships with partners and stakeholders.
• Are adept at working independently and collaboratively as part of a team to achieve shared goals.
