    Job Title: Delegated Authority Scheme Underwriter
    Salary: £40,000 – £50,000
    Location: Hertfordshire (Hybrid – minimum 1 day per week in the office)


    PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

    Our client is seeking a Delegated Authority Scheme Underwriter to support the performance and delivery of delegated underwriting schemes across their portfolio.

    This role will focus on underwriting scheme business, managing partner referrals and ensuring technically sound and commercially pragmatic underwriting decisions are made. The successful candidate will work closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure high service standards, strong underwriting discipline and efficient business processes.


    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Underwrite delegated authority scheme business in line with underwriting appetite and company guidelines.
    • Act as the first point of contact for allocated scheme partners, managing referrals and providing technical support where required.
    • Make technically sound and commercially astute underwriting decisions.
    • Support the ongoing performance and development of delegated underwriting schemes.
    • Ensure underwriting decisions align with internal governance, regulatory requirements and customer outcome expectations.
    • Maintain strong service standards and provide excellent support to scheme partners.
    • Contribute ideas and initiatives to improve underwriting processes and operational efficiency.
    • Support the optimisation of internal business processes to enhance delivery and service.
    • Carry out any additional duties required by the business.

    DAY TO DAY

    • Review and assess scheme submissions and referrals in line with agreed underwriting guidelines.
    • Provide technical guidance and support to scheme partners and internal colleagues.
    • Maintain accurate underwriting records and documentation across relevant systems.
    • Work collaboratively with internal teams to ensure smooth operational delivery.
    • Monitor scheme performance and escalate issues where appropriate.
    • Communicate clearly with stakeholders to ensure efficient handling of referrals and underwriting decisions.
    • Support the continuous improvement of underwriting processes and service delivery.

    EXPERIENCE

    • Strong technical underwriting knowledge of commercial lines classes of business.
    • Good understanding of coverage and policy wording considerations.
    • Experience working with underwriting systems and applications.
    • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads effectively.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders across the business.
    • A proactive and solutions-focused mindset with strong attention to detail.

    SKILLS

    • Strong underwriting judgement and commercial awareness.
    • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
    • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to different stakeholders.
    • Analytical and problem-solving capability.
    • Strong customer service focus.
    • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
    • Understanding of underwriting processes and operational efficiency.

    EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS

    • Insurance qualifications such as Dip CII or working towards are desirable.
    • A-level education or equivalent preferred.
    • Knowledge of delegated authority underwriting practices would be advantageous.
    • Commitment to ongoing professional development within the insurance market.
