    Job Title: Senior Construction Underwriter
    Location: London
    Package: GBP55,000 – GBP75,000
    Job Type: Permanent 

    The jobholder will provide technical underwriting capability to the Strategic Partnership Team to deliver underwriting services to both Client Companies and MGAs in line with the companys underwriting philosophy and technical standard.

    The jobholder will have technical excellence in:

    – CAR & PL Annual and Project Insurances
    – Machinery Breakdown and Business Interruption Insurance
    – Machinery Inherent Defects Insurance
    – Computer Insurance

    Key Responsibilities

    – Deliver high quality customer focused underwriting services to the London Market and Strategic Partnership Team
    – Achieve target loss ratios through high quality portfolio management, individual risk selection and pricing, utilising proactive account reviews and accurate and timely analysis of underwriting trends
    – Obtain and maximise growth and new business against the companys insurance product lines in line with the team target and business objectives
    – Manage underwriting relationship with designated customers to deliver profitable growth
    – Large risk underwriting and referrals from Strategic Partners
    – Analysis of the Strategic Partnerships account, its segments and coverages with a view to making recommendations to refine / modify pricing
    – Ensure provision of the accurate and appropriate pricing of portfolios for all of the companys strategic products
    – Act as reliable and responsive referral point for Delegated Authority CAR business
    – Coach and enable team members, acting as the referral point for technical and trading input to; Underwriters, Assistant Underwriters, Business Development Managers and Strategic Partners, so that they are skilled and empowered to deliver high quality underwriting decisions
    – Involvement in the signing off of Insurer / MGA wordings and the associated material (key facts, summaries of cover)
    – Review contractual documentation including but not exclusively; TOBAs Treaties, Binding Authorities and Underwriting & Procedure manuals, ensuring accuracy and that the needs of the customers are met
    – Work collaboratively with the Regional Underwriting Manager and wider team to ensure delivery of team and departments performance goals and objectives
    – Provide timely and relevant on the job training for; Underwriters, Assistant Underwriters and CSC Strategic Partnership Team members as required so that a high standard of service delivery is always maintained
    – Work collaboratively with the Underwriting Strategy and Standards team to develop training programmes for the team ensuring that any knowledge and skills gaps are identified and addressed
    – Undertake professional presentations to customers to support the development and knowledge base of their employees and to develop effective and constructive customer relationships
    – Ensure company service standards are always met and wherever possible exceeded
    – Ensure company compliance and control systems are always adhered to
    – Assist the Regional Underwriting Manager in completion of audits/annual business reviews and Field Underwriting Reviews ensuring that any remedial actions are identified and implemented
    – Assist and support existing companys wide projects to enable successful implementation e.g. Guidewire
    – Any additional duties and responsibilities commensurate with the position

    Key Skills and Experience

    – Excellent technical underwriting experience of construction and engineering lines
    – A sound knowledge and understanding of Policy Wordings and Contractual Documentation
    – Statistical analysis via excellence in Excel
    – Very good knowledge of market with strong business relationships
    – Pragmatic decision maker with analytical and reasoning skills
    – Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills
    – Collaboration and teamwork
    – Problem solving
    – Excellent written and verbal communication
    – Strong trading capability – commercial awareness, negotiation and influencing skills, ability to build strong relationships with Client Companies and also with key company office staff

    Qualifications and Educational Requirements

    – ACII or equivalent preferred
